By reforming the soft and ductile brass case to it's original size and shape, the hardened steel die 'works' the brass. A steel case does not reform as easily and will tear up the die. I'm considering depriming them with water and a wooden dowel. My thought is to drill an additional flash hole in the middle of the primer pocket so I can deprime on a press from then on. Sure, you can use a bit of loc-tite to keep it in place, but I'd wonder about that under multiple recoils, and also would worry about having enough for a lot of reloading.
